FALL IN LOVE WITH UTTARAKHAND
Popularly
known as ‘Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand’, literally translating to Land Of Gods, the
hill state of Uttarakhand is blessed with mesmerizing beauty. The surrounding
snow-capped mountain peaks, serpentine rivers carving their way through the
lush green hills and picturesque valleys are home to various holy pilgrimages,
adventure sports and tourist destinations.
"A
place where shabby, outlandishly dressed overseas tourist, a saint in saffron,
a pahadi commoner and a beggar in rags, where temple bells synchronise with
multiple Garhwali and Kumaoni dialects from radios and televisions, where you
can strangely see both Gujjar mandapsand international schools in the high
mountains, where you can ski-raft-bungee-jump and yoga for spritual release,
reasons not to be given to love for its unauthored orality, demographically
diverse. Heaven on earth are many but few like Uttarakhand."

People of Uttarakhand are known for their simple lifestyle
and honesty. Their lifestyle portrays their connectivity with nature
and gods. Despite having cities with all state-of-the-art modern amenities, the
people of Uttarakhand still stick with their culture and traditional values.
Their culture revolves around its traditional ethics, moral values, the
simplicity of nature and a rich mythology.
The people of Uttarakhand have celebrations round the year
due to deep-rooted connection with mythology. Season are welcomed with hearty
folk songs and dances and so are the agricultural
periods. Worshiping of ancestor's spirit is what you'll hardly find
anywhere in the world. Jaagars are held to wake the Gods and the local deities
up from their inactive stage, as it is believed that they shower on
them with blessings and solve their problems. Dances like Barada Nati, Bhotiya
Dance, Chancheri, Chhapeli, Choliya Dance, Jagars, Jhora, Langvir Dance,
Langvir Nritya, Pandav Nritya, Ramola, Shotiya Tribal Folk Dances, Thali-Jadda,
and Jhainta are performed on various occasions. Women are seen preparing
traditional dishes and singing folk songs during the festivals. Dressed
traditionally in Ghagra-Choli with a Rangwali (veil), these women look
beautiful and their beauty is further enhanced by the big Nose Rings (Naaka ki
Nathuli) made of gold.
